New Life Adult Day Care
At 10:30 AM, December 22nd, 2025, our CAUSE members arrived at New Life Adult Day Care in Anaheim, instruments in hand with a little bit of nervous energy in the air. We had just finished a performance at Harbor Heights Senior Care Facility an hour before, so we were prepared but still a bit nervous to perform in front of such a big crowd. The holidays were just around the corner, and we wanted to do something meaningful with that feeling, so we brought our music to the people there.
Walking into New Life, our student ensemble was immediately struck by how welcoming everything felt. The staff greeted us with big smiles, helped us get set up, and made sure the residents had good seats. There was already a buzz in the room before we started playing. The energy was contagious and helped calm our nerves. Our first piece was “Beethoven Virus,” a modern orchestral remix of Beethoven’s Sonata. The piece was energetic, bold, and really captivating. There was a shift in the atmosphere as the powerful piece filled all corners of the large room.
Our second piece, “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” brought a completely different feeling to the room. After the high energy of Beethoven Virus, this piece felt much calmer and suitable. It was familiar, joyful, and perfect for the season. Almost immediately, people began to smile and sway with the music. A few hummed along quietly, some even mouthing the words. When we play a song that people already know and love, it doesn’t just entertain, it connects people, regardless of age or background. It felt more than a performance playing it in that room, surrounded by residents who were genuinely moved and appreciative of the music.
We had spent weeks preparing for these performances, but we didn’t expect the reaction or impact our playing would have. The contrast between the pieces was able to show the residents the full range of what music can bring. By the time we finished, there were smiles across the entire room, as well as in the ensemble. Some staff members and residents even personally praised our students as we packed up.
Performing at New Life Adult Day Care, especially right after Harbor Heights, made December 22nd one of the most memorable and impactful days we have had as an ensemble. At the core of what CAUSE does is a belief that music is a very powerful bridge. It crosses generations, languages, and backgrounds better than anything else. Walking into a building full of people decades older and leaving with smiles and praise shows exactly that.
We are so grateful to the staff and residents of New Life Adult Day Care for welcoming us so warmly, and we hope to be back next year.
